Contact them for permission to reproduce it. |  | | Description | Very close to St Piran's Cross; St Piran's 'Lost Oratory' is buried under the mound in the top photo. If you look closely you will see the little granite stone marking the site, and in the photo below, the plaque placed there in 1980. The remains of the 6th century building, the church established by the Irish missionary, (and Cornwall's favourite saint), was buried to protect it from the ravages of weather and sand (which kept inundating it anyway!) |

(2005-10-25) | It's actually several hundred yards away from the cross, but if you head from there, towards the huge modern cross on top of the sand-dunes, you might stumble across it! (I didn't put 'very close' on my submission) | AngieLake
(2005-10-25) | The chapel next to St Piran's Cross is a later building, and it is that one that was excavated, and features in a southwest TV prog, 'Inside Out' next Monday evening! | hamish
(2005-10-26) | When I was a lad in Kernow we used to regularly visit the Oratory in Perran Sands.There was always a celebration there on March 5th " Dydh Sen Pian " . I suppose there still is a celebration but not the same as when the Oratory was exposed. One of the reasons for the covering up was that people were removing bits as souvenirs and doing lasting damage. | AngieLake
