Description Whilst on my travels round France, I came across this lovely representation of Obelix, everybody's favourite menhir delivery man, made out of straw bales. He was standing at a road junction near the village of Sériers, an area well blessed with megalithic remains, in the Departement of Cantal, Auvergne.

The jocose Gauls, and their Roman adversaries, have never caught on in the US for some reason. We didn't even get that live-action movie with Gerard Depardieu. So I don't think that adding a sort of "Wicker Man"-like dimension, as above, is even going to help much. It's cute, and unexpected in that I'm surprised French farmers seem to have this sense of humor (but then I'm surprised that the French in general may have a sense of humor), but it still won't play well in the "Colonies."

Can any country that adores Jerry Lewis films be said to have a sense of humour. :-) Can't fault Jerry for all the charity fund raisers he has started up mind you. Just the fact that his humour isn't.
