Located close to the A523 Macclesfield to Leek road (and visible from the carpark of the Fools Nook pub) this beaker barrow was constructed in three phases. Excavations took place in the late 1960's but were delayed by the Foot and Mouth epidemic.
A primary burial was discovered in a pit with subsidiary ones closer to the edge. A large number of pot sherds and flints were also discovered throughout the tumulus.
Interestingly a large number of Neolithic Peterborough ware pottery sherds (from 23 different types of pot) were also found in the mound suggesting there must have been an earlier settlement close by.
The site was used as a Home Guard as a dug out during the war.
