Great to see these ancient breeds making an appearance on the portal, perhaps we should have a section on prehistoric domesticates. Whereabouts in the forest are these critters, I'll have to pay a visit. Mind you, they're not as sweet as those highland cattle with their fringes!

The cattle roam free - these were on the edge of Fairmead Thicket. Others are behind electric fences on Chingford Plain until they are aclimatised and judged to be safe. Yes I agree, let's see some photos of more ancient breeds. There is a herd of reindeeer somewhere up north and the Chillinghan white cattle in geordie land have never been domesticated.

Coward! Its modern dairy cattle that you really should be wary of & luckily there is no danger of running into an Aurochs anymore.

They are all Aurochs to me.

Me too hamish, anything sporting that kit on its head is better on t'other side of a fence. Lovely picture though.

The chillingham wild cattle are thought to be descendents of the Aurochs, and they have a totally different dna structure to modern domestic cattle, interesting huh?

Very - can you get us some photos without getting gored? They are pretty fierce I understand.
