This is a shot of the Maiden Stone, Aberdeenshire class II Pictish symbol stone taken very early in the morning with a low sun lighting up the stone, picking out the intricacies of the carved symbols on the granite megalith. |

(2005-07-19) | Not sure if this one qualifies for the competition as its not prehistoric. Pictish stones date from the 5th to 7th centuries AD, but perhaps in this case, the carvings were made on an earlier standing stone. | megawoogi
