If this was the case, then the man on the left is holding up his arms in worship rather than fear." |
| Posted Comments: marginalbear (2012-07-06) | Warning. Avoid snakes. Health and safety notice. | marginalbear (2012-07-09) | On second reading , there are only 2 snakes found in Sweden, the adder and grass snake. | Martin L (2012-07-10) | Currently there seem to be mainly 3 species. Vipera berus, Natrix natrix, Coronella austriaca,
Epecially Vipera berus is partly very common nowadays.
But we do not know about the exact incidences in prehistoric times. The assumed sligthly warmer climate during most of bronze age in Scandinavia may have influenced the occurence too.
Furthermore i tend to agree with the common interpretation of the anthropomorphs' posture as being a worshipping one. | marginalbear (2012-08-14) | Wow. Some smooth snake! Well worth worshipping. | Martin L (2012-08-14) | Compare for example the important role of snakes in the religious beliefs of several west african ethnical groups for example. |
