Thanks, Baz. I deliberately missed the programme. Not sorry I did now - it looks like pink foam from a giant sofa - wonder if it is flame retardant? Hope not.. Do we really think that the lintels were so clean cut and square sectioned? Did they hire a sculptor or a sofa designer?

It's made from polystyrene foam which has had a flame retardant applied. However, I was told not to smoke anywhere near to it. The design is based on archaeologist Mike Pitts' (far right in the picture) interpretation of how it looked when built.

Doh. Makes me appreciate all over again that I don't have a television.

Come on you guys... lighten up! (Not light up, oops!) Excuse the pun. Someone has worked hard to make all these and stage this event, don't spoil their fun. (I didn't see the prog, so if it was very serious, well....)

I am led to believe that it was sort of serious and I just wonder how much it cost to make Foamhenge. If only that amount could have been spent on restoration work elsewhere - but restoring battered and ploughed out long barrows is not sexy telly. Silbury Hill could do with the money wasted on this foam folly too. Perhaps some rich geezer will buy it on ebay and the cost can be recovered and used more wisely.

Thorgrim wrote (more or less): "Bah humbug!" Lighten up, man! As far as I'm concerned, the more programmes about Stonehenge, or any other of our ancient monuments, the better. Your as bad as the politicians who complain about programmes they haven't seen!

Hey Baz - this isn't the other side - we are allowed to express our own opinions here and not obliged to follow the clique. I hate being told to "lighten up" What a stupid expression! So you tell me - what did anyone actually learn from this expensive "lightened up" frolic? Solved the mystery of Stonehenge even with a wobbly altar stone located somewhere completely different? Well ,Mr Pitts got to be a telly star and so that's alright then. GRRR!

Ha! Yet more "Bah humbug!" Lighten up, man! I've not seen the programmes, I was too busy taking part, therefore I cannot comment on them, unlike you.

'Err where have I actually commented on the programme? My adverse un-lightened comment concerned the ghastly plastic repro which I can see in your photo. Didn't see the programme, didn't want to, so haven't passed comment on it. Wise up (or lighten up or better still - light it up)and don't see what isn't there! You took part in the programme? Wow! Watch your back Mr Pitt - another TV star is treading close behind you.

Having watched both programmes I can only say a big well done to Mike Pitts & the rest of the team. I thought the programme came up with many interesting points. The only negs for me was the time spent in the 1st programme showing how Foamhenge was designed & crafted + the modern interpretation of a druids ceremony.

Thorgrim asked:"'Err where have I actually commented on the programme?" You said you're not sorry you missed it, apparently based on the evidence of this one photo. You made a comment along the lines that the money for it could have been better spent elsewhere. You called it "an expensive 'lightened up' frolic". You asked if it had " Solved the mystery of Stonehenge even with a wobbly altar stone located somewhere completely different?" knowing that that was unlikely in the extreme. You said " Mr Pitts got to be a telly star and so that's alright then." I think we should stop this nonsense and just agree to disagree.

I only saw the bit that featured a long, thoughtful discussion between Mike Pitts, Mike Parker-Pearson, Clive Ruggles and Francis Prior. They are pretty much the prehistoric archaeology 'A Team' in my book, only missing Aubrey Burl of course but he's pretty much retired now. This was the sort of slow, intelligent TV that I though had long gone. Someone on Britarch complained that they were too focused on ritual theories, well good on them and go back in your little conservative box Britarch person.
