|Description ||Looking down on to the Roman Gardens from Newgate. The gardens are actually laid out in the form of Aesculapius (Greek Asklepios) - the serpent coiled around a staff. Anyone with a knowledge of medicine will know this is the deity for medicine and healing. Sadly, few know the garden is laid out in this way (only one of the many Chester guide books refer to its shape), and is near impossible to make out even from the top of the walls.|
