(2003-03-15) | I find this picture bloodcurdling. In 1947 my friend & I often used to cycle out of the main gate from No.2 RAF Radio School, Yatesbury on wednesday sports afternoons, then up the road to Silbury Hill. Here we carried our bikes over the fence & left them out of sight behind the hill. Then we climbed up & sunned ourselves on the top for an hour or two before cycling back as though we had been out for a long ride. If we had known that the summit might have collapsed at any time we would not have gone near it. |
