Description The standing stone in the wider context of the field; curious if the dark circular mark in the picture is a ploughed out barrow. Also the long dark line - a disused track or lost field boundary?

The modern (tractor) marks are also interesting. It seems that driving right next to the stone is the most popular option, with skirting round it the second option. Maybe its only given a wide berth when they're spraying the field? Anyway, I've no idea what the dark line is across the field.

Yes, I thought it made for an interesting view; spraying? usually farmers spray stones with whatever they have to spray on the field. As for the tractor marks - literally a crop circle, but made by an IDO. Idenitified Driving Object.. The line? I've been trying to figure out that since 2nd April; something to do with the cursus? Naaah. Peeling off from the Roman Rd running along the top of the ridge to the N. Nope. Don't think so. Questions, questions!

As to the dark circular mark: is it the disused pit featured on the OS map? There are a lot of marl pits in this area, once used as sources of chalk. There's one in the field with the bank barrow and round barrows on Martin's down (close to where you took this pic from).
