Contact them for permission to reproduce it. |  | | Description | Looking NE along the course of the Dorset Cursus from Gussage Hill to Bottlebush Down. The cursus banks no longer remain in this 3 km section so their route has been sketched out in white. In the foreground is the grassy remains of Gussage Down settlement, in the centre the Bronze Age round barrows on Wyke Down. The Roman road known as Ackling Dyke cuts diagonally across the photo from the horizon on the left to the middle-right, with trees and bushes along its route. The cursus has a slight change of direction as it climbs Bottlebush Down and it is thought that the original terminal of the cursus was at this point (and was later extended another 4.5 km NE to Martin Down). The tree-covered high ground on the horizon is Penbury Knoll, an Iron-Age camp. |
