Derreenataggart is both easily accessible and a fine example of an axial or recumbent stone circle. It is now incomplete: of an original fifteen or so stones, nine remain erect and three are now prostrate. The stones are graded in height increasing from the stones adjacent to the recumbent, c0.4m in height, up to the stones in the portal area which would have been close to 2.5m in height. The circle has an E-W equinoctial alignment and has a diameter along this axis of 7.8m.
