The row has suffered the fate of being 'restored', by Burnard in 1898, so many of the features seen today are unlikely to have been original. Yet the kink in the row as it approaches the circle is similar to many other rows on the moors. During its restoration six flint artefacts and pottery from at least two Beaker vessels were found, though no sign of an internment. The surrounding forest was cleared about five years ago creating a more original environment. Photo facingNW |
| Posted Comments: simonsworn (2005-03-16) | Oophs, slight change in the above details, this row was actually excavated and 'restored' in 1895 by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee there were no finds were recovered. The above description of recovered finds by Barnard in 1898 relates to a cairn on the western slopes of Lakehead Hill, about 260m to the west. Sorry about that, must cut down on the scrumpy. SS | TheCaptain (2005-03-17) | thanks for the info. |
