Description Spotted very close to the Cheetham Close Circle. Are these cup marks? I can find no references to rock art on this site.

It looks rather like a slab (either triangular in cross-section or lozenge-shaped depending on the surface lying on the ground) that has collapsed towards the camera (so to speak). If so, then the marks may be the result of the top of the stone having broken off. None of the known seven reference sources for this site speak of rock art. Barnatt speaks of 2 outlying slabs between the two sites (i.e. the circle and the cairn). Quote: "That 14m to the SW of the circle is 0.5m high. The other, 31m to the SSE, and east of the ringcairn is 0.9m high." Not familiar with the relative positions on this site or the size of this stone but could it be one of these?

This stone is definitely not one of the 2 outliers, one is the Mirestone illustrated here on the portal, the other according to DEFRA is reduced to a stump and I’ve not yet identified it with any certainty, but it should be closer to the circle than this stone. It is more likely that this stone is associated with one of the cairns also present on this interesting but very ruined site.
