In an area abundant in stone circles, Bohonagh stands out as a particularly fine example of an axial (sometimes called recumbent) stone circle. The nine remaining stones of an original thirteen are particularly large and impressive. They form a circle 9.9m in diameter with an equinoctial sun-set alignment. Portal stones, 2.5m in height, stand opposite a 1.4m tall flat-topped and squat recumbent stone. Eighteen meters to the east of the circle is a boulder-burial: a massive cover stone resting on three low boulders. There are seven cup-marks on the upper surface of the capstone.
