This site confuses me a little, you have 2 fairly large flat panels of rock with various carvings, ranging from simple cup markings to the more elaborate design you see in this photo. The confusing bit is the different amounts of erosion on carvings that are within a few feet of each other, some are nearly completely worn, others still quite clear & sharp. Of course this could be down to erosion from the massing hoards feet & the original depth of the carving.
I think I’ll remain ‘confused’, they’re definitely of antiquity, but how far that antiquity goes back I’m not too sure.
This is a view of the western & slightly sharper panel.

| Posted Comments: rich32 (2005-04-01) | After a bit of digging around, I've discovered that these carvings were turf covered until the 19th century, probably explains the lack of erosion and rather new look. |
