Description The rear of the Sphinx shows the erosion that some believe to have been caused by heavy rain when the region had a much wetter climate.

No wonder the tourist pics are always taken looking from the other direction! What a shame.

The size and weather erosion is much clearer from the rear. Some of the front (particularly the paws) have been rebuilt. Access is now restricted to a raised footpath to one side in order to conserve the giant Sphinx
