This is a rare photograph now! Even this protective shell is buried deep beneath the shifting sand dunes. Photos taken by ordinary people can become important historical records

I visited this place in the early 70s, when living at Newquay, and didn't even take a photo of it! We did a 20-mile sponsored walk for the RNLI and passed near it on that day, too. Pity I wasn't aware then that it would disappear so quickly!!

PS: It was known then as 'St Piran's Lost Oratory' - even though you could still see it under the ugly 'hangar'.

See site page for 'Royal Cornwall Museum' and a photo on display there. Also replica 'heads' from the oratory, including a 'cat's head' original limestone carving.

The Cats head is usually associated with the Pagan spirit Pa or Paw, Lughs companion animal, very totemic for a Christian site.
