|Description ||The Sleeping Beauty figure seen on the horizon. It was taken in winter, hence the drifts of peat-smoke from Callanish village, some time in the early 1980s. It's taken from a spot about half a mile to the ENE of the Callanish main site, but the impression would be the same from anywhere in the immediate area. From the Achmore site, another nearer hill 'becomes involved' making her look pregnant.|
|Hello Gerald. This is very atmospheric, and exciting to have one posted on the site from you! (Q. for you): Is that her head, far right of the photo, making the next hump her breast, with its point representing her nipple?.. or is the 'breast' her head, with its point representing her nose? (When I visited Callanish, I was convinced that my second thought was the correct one. But looking at this photo, I can see now, how a breast effect would be more fitting!) I bought your excellent handy-sized Callanish book recently. (Wooden Books Ltd, edition). You must be very proud of all the work you did on Callanish. Thankyou from a lover of Callanish and the beautiful Isle of Lewis!|

|Her 'knees' are on the left, her nose (a huge rock outcrop which I climbed on many years ago) is immediately above the tinmy shiny patch of water towards the right. The hill furthest to the right, we sometimes called her 'pillow'. Since posting, I can bate this pic exactly - 1st January 1980.|
|Thanks Gerald. My memory of the Callanish visit was correct then!|
