The stone is still standing upright, with its base neatly set in concrete with a tidy wall supporting the earth bank behind. This may help to prevent toppling, but does give the site the ambience of a contemporary structure. About 3.5m tall, it is a particularly phallic menhir. |
| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2005-01-02) | Yes, that wall does seem to spoil the site a bit, but it's a nice stone (I see what you mean!). I like the idea of the bare feet - really getting in touch with nature.... Must try that next summer. (I usually dowse these sites if I have time, so am not always looking where I'm stepping, which can be dodgy!) | James (2005-01-11) | The stone fell over c Jan 2003, and was lifted back into position in June 2003 when it was bedded into the concrete. Agree about ambience, but in time the concrete should become obscured by grass etc. The wall had been built into it, and now curves around the back. | thecaptain (2005-01-12) | we have pictures of this stone both before and during its fallen perion on the portal.
