| Posted Comments: enkidu41 (2004-11-20) | Translating "Twlc" as pigsty is, I think, a little too free. The word in modern Welsh means sty, that is to say, any enclosure for an animal, certainly not just pigs. The better translation is, as sem alludes to, "greyhound's kennel (or lair)". Moreover, I believe "filiast" refers to the female greyhound so the translation then is more accurately "greyhound bitches kennel (lair)". | sem (2004-11-20) | Actually I agree. The dictionary I have is the EW/WE dictionary published for The Works.Translating from Eng to Welsh the words for both kennel & pigsty are not present & from W to E filiast is not there either. But you've got to admit "pigsty of the greyhound bitch" has a lovely ring to it. |
