Description The reverse (south side) of my favourite Pictish stone at Aberlemno seemed to have cup-marks carved in the lower part of it. This shot taken 5th July 2001. This is one of the finest Class I Pictish stones. It is of sandstone and stands on the roadside to the north of the church. The design shows a snake, double-disc and Z-rod with a mirror and comb below

Thankyou Nick... isn't it magic? I wonder if anyone has theories about the dents in the back of it (left)??

Geological? Hmm, I don't know........ I wish the French would show the same care , in looking after their menhirs and dolmens in the SW of France.......... There is just no interest.

We are lucky to have them there,in '97 there was an attempt by historic Scotland to move them indoors. You would have to pay to see them if that happened.

I cannot believe a menhir with that sort of carving on it. Still look at it 4 years on and marvel.

"Like their houses then?!" There is loads of medieval and prehistoric stuff falling into disrepair in France....Its partly lack of interest but also just lack of finances!
Like in the the Gers (Dept.32) they are too busy throwing money at "Jazz in Marciac", far less for other local groups.

Ahhh, the Marciac Jazz Fest. I remember Dale Wynton Marsalis in 2000......

Hi Nick. Don't get me wrong: I sometimes think I'd rather have one crumbling French house, full of atmosphere, than a dozen 'little boxes on a hillside' on a British modern housing estate!
