Inspired by an 1836 drawing of Pastor Diederich Harries,
this 'model' or replica has been set here in 2010.
There have been Long Barrows in this area, but there are no
remains.
One thing was very unusual about the drawing:
It shows a big single bolder set right in the middle of the barrow,
an oddly square shaped foundling.
The 60 x 7m barrow was build in almost exact east-west orientation.
Inside of the long rows of kerbstones are two extended Dolmens,
both set at the ends.
There is a strange detail:
In front of the Dolmens they have set two extra uprights,
and there is an explanation board that calls them 'Wächtersteine';
guardian stones. I have never seen such stones, only
in front of the short end of a Long Barrow. |
