Description Stop the car, there's a stone! How many of us have spied something suspicious from the car, and stopped ASAP to have a look? The humour of this picture shows that tendency so well... car stopped in the middle of a lane, both doors wide open! This stone is not recorded on any Welsh Sites & Monuments records, but we thought it a good contender for a legit standing stone. Set away from the wall (not in it), with some possible packing around the base. South of Druid, not far from a caravan site, and north east from Caer Euni hillfort, at grid reference SJ008418. The fence shows signs of having been climbed over - see right next to stone. We peeped over the fence from the embankment, as were heading off to investigate the Hafod y Garreg and Hafod y Dre stone rows. Already delayed by nearly getting on the A5, but finding it blocked by a North West Fuels oil tanker stuck on a bridge at Maerdy, we had to backtrack adding some 25 minutes onto the journey. At least we got to see this en route.

Why did you blank out the number plate? Did you steal the car?

I always do... just to keep some sense of privacy, especially as I am usually in someone else's car!

What were those futuristic cars? - de Loreans? - Imagine that abandoned in the lane with its doors open! It looks really narrow - lucky a tractor didn't come along! Nice story, made me smile....... Hope you didn't catch anything on the barbed wire?!!!!

We didn't do any fence 'opping; honest, guv! No tractor, thankfully; we were only there 2 minutes, and right next to the car, so any problems we could scoot quickly. On the way along the A5 I saw a stone atop a mound; as I like to follow where I am exactly on an OS map, my hopes of something prehistoric were soon dashed as I saw a motte marked on the place concerned. With this stone I am more optimistic. What a hobby, though, eh? See a lump or bump, or stone, then you start getting excited!

That looks familiar! I know what you mean Tim, I do it all the time. There you are, tootling along, when you suddenly spy an errant stone in a field or hedgerow. Screeeeeeeeeech! Pile out to check it out! It's almost obsessive!
