Although named after a defeated Jacobite this stone stands on the other side of Kirriemuir from the battle site and looks much older. |
| Posted Comments: golux (2012-01-08) | This prehistoric standing stone, like many others, has been given a name in local folklore which has nothing to do with its true origin and only a fanciful connection with historic fact. Although Claverhouse (John Graham of Claverhouse, 1st Viscount Dundee, commemorated in song as "Bonnie Dundee" but infamous in his own time as "Bluidy Clavers") was killed near here, at the battle of Killiecrankie on 27 July 1689, this stone is too far from the battlefield to be the correct location. |
