The western edge is steadily eroding into the sea - trying to peer at the exposed stratigraphy is a somewhat perilous pursuit! In other places, the beach pebbles making the core of the ramparts are visible.
The site is a victim of its favourable position. Adjacent a family beach, a chip shop at its northern edge, and a pub or two not far away make it a very accessible and well visited place. The erosion on the northern path up is horrendous, even as I walk, bits of it were blowing away. |
