Bindon Hill is a vast chunk of chalk ridgeway nibbled at both ends by the sea. Its so large that this image is a composite of two images taken from a distance. The amazing thing is that Iron Age settlers from the continent dug a defensive earthwork along the entire length of this ridge. It would have required huge numbers of people to defend the 2.5km stretch of ramparts. The hill on the left of the picture is Flower's Barrow, home to a more conventional Iron Age hillfort. This picture was taken into the sun on a lovely morning, which explains the odd exposure and glare from the clouds. |
