City Center within Stockade. Monk's Mound, the main structure at the right near the horizon, is a structural mound and originally held a wooden structure at the top level, supposed to be a civil or religious building, not a dwelling. Today, Monk's Mound is 98 meters high, with a ground base of 291 meters by 236 meters. The mound is earthen, although recent core drilling indicates a stone or gravel mass within the west side, perhaps used to stabilize the structure. |
