These structures lay between the rectangular earthen wall that surrounded the "Quandranaou," sloping downward toward the Ohio River.
This "entry" from the river to the mound complex was preserved for about 100 years by the Marietta citizens. But as the 20th century arrived, many of the mound features were considered just too much trouble to maintain and fell to business development, whether it was street upgrades, home building, or just convenient source of fill dirt. So the mounds of the "Scared Way" were destroyed.
