Petroglyphs in the area have been dated back to at least 4,000 BCE. Origin of the cairns is unknown but believed to be Native American. There are local legends in the area that tell of a tall, white skin, red-haired people that once lived near the mound. These people were killed off prior to the coming of the Europeans after Columbus rediscovered the New World. |
