The view is towards the East; Mam Tor is behind the camera, to the South-West.
The path along the ridge is thought to be an important route as early as the Bronze Age -- pre-dating even the Mam Tor hillfort. Paths then tended to follow high ground, for drier footing and ease of navigation above the extensive forests. (See 'Peakland Roads and Trackways' by Dodd and Dodd.)
This is a spectacular walk -- recommended! |
| Posted Comments: Aluta (2007-04-20) | You've sold me on it. I want to go walking there! | TimPrevett (2007-04-20) | It's great, Aluta; my wife & I did this route around Edale ooh some 10 years ago, I think. | Aluta (2007-04-20) | I'd better get over there before long, or I'll be to old and stiff . . .
Both pictures are lovely. I like that moody one with the sheep. |
