Description * B * Best photo with an Historic or Landscape subject
I didn't know which category to enter this photo in because its actually taken above the Langdale Axe Factory. However, this isn't obvious so I think it belongs in the Landscapes section.
The photo was taken on the 8th of April, a magnificent spring day. Standing up there on Pike O'Stickle really helped me connect to our ancestors, who spent time roughing out axes to take back down to the camps for polishing.
Such a magnificent view, which really won't have changed that much in the thousands of years that separate me from them.
Three lakes and a tarn are visible in the shot, Windermere, Coniston Water, Elter Water and Blea Tarn.

Thanks for the comments guys :) btw - this shot is how it came out of the can...
I'm working on my HDR skills, but its definately a new processing skill and getting the balance right is difficult. It so easy to over cook the result. At the end of the day, as Wayland says, its all about integrity and intention.
And I love all the winning entries, but love Wayland's Rooks over Castlerigg most of all :) It oozes integrity!

Nicola - it's great, as usual! How come Terry didn't enter this year? Was it because of last year's controversy? I liked that one of Minning Low.

I think the controversy did dampen his spirits somewhat - though I'm sure he'll be back one day. We're off to Capel Garmon this weekend - with my dowsing rods! yey!

I've already dowsed there. Shall I email you the result later? (See what you get in the area of the false entrance (east).)
