|Description ||Remains of former high ranking Villa in central Sicilly near Casale. This 3-4th century CE Villa was buried under mud when the nearby hill collapsed on top of it. This admirably preserved the mosaics, though the structure is heavily damaged if not missing. It's discovery caused a sensation in 1929. At the time it was thought it belonged to an emperor, but now scholars are a little more cautious with their assumptions. The quality and quantity of the Mosaics however make it certain that it was built by someone with substancial resources.|
