All barrows are in very good condition and the entire area is known as Süllberg. Surprisingly no signs, but from the detailed villages chronicles it is known that this small forest with the about 25 remaining tumuli is protected since 26th of June 1935!
The most eastern tumuli were used as a sandpit and show some small damages. Next to them was a sandpit indeed.
Barrows were in further use during Iron Age.
Early in the 1900ties sandpit was in use and many urns were found from Iron Age. Unfortunately all were destroyed. Though drawings of them exsist and one urn adorns Hemdingen's arms. |
