Squared 2m by 1.6m chamber, on the long sides pairs of two 1.3m to 1.4m high, 1m to 1.2m wide uprights. One 2.2m by 1.4m capstone in place. There is another capstone, fallen into the chamber. (The second capstone might be not original. There is no mentioning in the official description. On the other hand it would be very strange if 'they' added this stone just like that. Also, here the front pair of uprights have fallen out of position, which is not the case in the original sketches and pictures) |
| Posted Comments: Martin L (2009-03-23) | Very beautiful indeed. The fact of a fallen second capstone really is strange. Maybe it was reconstructed with an added second capstone and the reconstruction became vandalized? Like at the reconstruction in Goosefeld? | holger rix (2009-03-23) | Thats what I thought. But judging from the ground around, then it must have been vandalized a long time ago. And for what adding a second capstone? First choice is keeping it original, right. Strange indeed. | Martin L (2009-03-23) | There are several examples where missing stones are added when reconstructions were carried out. Would really be interesting what happened in this case. Anyway: thanks for the fine pictures! |
