| Posted Comments: Martin L (2011-05-13) | An almost secret site. It was examined by Sprockhoff and Schwieger in 1927.
After the death of Prof. Sprockhoff in 1968, the third part of the Atlas was completed by Dr. Körner et al. . When trying to revisit the site in 1969 it was not found, as the coordinates obviously were incorrect for appr. 1km. So it was believed, the site was destroyed between 1927 and 1969. But fortunately it is preserved almost in the same state as when Sprockhoff examined it in 1927.
| TheCaptain (2011-05-13) | This must have taken quite some finding. Well done! | Martin L (2011-05-14) | The error was noted in the late 1970s (not by me of course). But as all other online sites refer to Sprockhoff they all (currently) state it is destroyed hence it is almost a secret site still. Not signposted. But it is marked on newest topgraphic maps now and there also is the (obviously more unknown) guidebook i referenced in the article mentioning it. |
