The sun's disc is a little clearer here due to the cloud blanking out the glare that normally surrounds it. When viewed in this way it's true size is more apparent, and it is actually approx. 1/2 degree wide,or smaller than your little finger nail looks when held at arms length.
The Sunset position moves to the right by approx.this amount(1/2 deg) each day at this time of year. This movement is increasing daily a tiny amount,and will reach it's maximum amount of change this month. From then on it will decrease daily, until come the Winter solstice there will be no daily change,and the Sun will then turn around and head back South,repeating the cycle once more.
The pointy peak just right of centre ( Twry Fan Foel) is about 10 degrees away from the sun here. |

I'm hoping to get the photo to make real sense of this soon, but the weather has kept me waiting for 6 years already, so maybe that one is for someone else to capture. If I don't get it this year I'll just have to take a leaf out of Angies book, and draw it, with a written explanation. It's quite a little tale. He's really more into shadows cast at certain times, but also knows a lot about various places of sun-and-moon-rises, and sets. Andy B met him once on Private Access. It was Jack who kindly took me with him on Private Access at SH, inc. one occasion when I noticed the 'vulva' mark on Stone 16 in photos I'd taken there. (He's a retired farmer in Cumbria.) | cerrig
