| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2005-07-16) | Thanks for this lovely pic, Runemage, and for introducing me to the word numinous! I hadn't heard that before, but its meaning is true for most ancient monuments, isn't it (especially on Orkney and Lewis!)? | Runemage (2005-07-16) | Thanks for your kind words Angie, I think I first came across the word "numinous" in Philip Heselton's "Secret Places of the Goddess" many years ago and it's been a firm favourite ever since, particularly when applied to the ancient places. I've not been to Lewis (yet, hopefully next year for the Lunar Standstill) but Orkney definitely has a gentle magic all of its own. This was taken there last July, if you look to the far right of this photo, the Watchstone is there, a bit hard to see for all the fenceposts and the building but I found that to be one of the most numinous spots I've visited so far. |
