Description Foppe-Nadro petroglyphs.
The engravings were made on the smooth exposed bedrock of the mountain. In this case feet!

Not sure if the scale is right, but might they perhaps be templates for axe heads rather than feet? I actually thought 'feet' when I first saw the picture, then decided I was reflecting modern soles back to a time they wouldn't have been in use, and axe heads was the only other thing I could come up with - not based on any research etc, just an impression.

Most probably these are footsoles. In many cases they appear pairwise. There are many examples of shoeprints and footprints in Italian and esp. Scandinavian bronze age rockart. If you look at all the thousands of known carvings of this type it is quite obvious that they depict feet/shoes. There were also findings of bronzeage-shoes from other areas. So shoes were definitly used during bronze age.

I believe Ötsie, the Iceman, was wearing mocasins of sorts when they found him not far away. There are other carvings of feet with toes, unfortunately the photos didn't turn out in the poor light.
