Brilliant! I like the carvings on this one too... almost like Humpty-Dumpty with a bow-tie, etc.! - or is it a Trilithon-type design???

not far out with Humpty Dumpty Angie ! His belt and legs are clearly visible, as is his collar/harness. See Pousthomy for a more complete chappy, and here for a childrens DIY version.

Thanks for that link Martyn. Aren't they unusual? Funny I should say Humpty-Dumpty, and you'd added the kiddie's model of one to the pics on that site page! The strap-like carvings are unusual ... as if the figures were strapped down on something - almost like car seat-belts.

No doubt for holding their robes together, and also for carrying their possessions - bows, arrows, daggers and the mystical "l'objet".

For a slightly different interpretation of these Tarn region male statue menhirs, see this diagram of the Pailhemalbiau statue menhir. This chap has different possessions, and no obvious "seat belts". But Moulin-de-Louat seems to have strapping but no obvious possessions.

Guess its all a bit dependent on who they were meant to represent.
