It has been thought of as part of Offa's Dyke which is in evidence in a few places in the area, but a tumulus near the centre of the circle had very early Bronze Age flints discovered under it, and 3 cremations from later in the Bronze Age were added subsequenty, so opinion has leaned towards a much earlier date for the feature.
It is thought to be a possbile henge with cursus running NW and SE from the circular earthwork. There is no public access, but what remains can be viewed adequately from the road side on the SE, adjacent the bridleway running E - W.
In the picture can be seen the mound of the central tumulus (in front of the black-covered hay bales), part of the ditch showing as the darker, shaded lines either side, then coming towards the viewer, the mounds of the linear earthworks. The perspective is looking to the NW. |
