Whilst waiting for the sun to go down watch from the western end and see the effect of the shadows of the lintels moving up the Heel Stone as here in this photograph taken at 3.52pm on 05.01.2003.

| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2008-10-23) | JackME's lovely photo of a SW-area sunset illustrates the strong reddish-pink sunlight on the stones, and highlights the 'spine' or 'POST' effect on Stone 16, surrounded by a lozenge shape. (I've suggested that it could be a permanent image of an earlier much-revered timber post, possibly those standing where the car park is now, at NW*. The NW face of Stone 16 is like adzed wood, which would link in figuratively with the posts being in that direction.)
Another contributor [Alex] to Eternal Idol forum sees this 'spine' as a probable 'ithyphallic' shape, and the whole face (spine and lozenge) as a possible vulva symbol.
*[E.I. website owner Dennis Price is investigating the importance of the NW timber posts.] |
