Contact them for permission to reproduce it. | | | Description | The 16thC church of St Thomas, at Mellor, was originally in the ancient Diocese of Lichfield, the Diocese of St Chad. It is claimed that in the 7thC Chad personally established a chapel at Chadkirk, about 5 miles west of Mellor.
The sandstone font long predates the present church and is thought to be late Saxon or (nowadays) Viking. Mellor was on the edge of Danish Mercia which in this region was roughly bounded in the 9-10th C by the nearby Rivers Etherow and Goyt. |
