My brother made this pictures, he got bitten by the 'megalith microbe' too when I told him about this website and my searches for barrow cemetries in our area. He joined me when I went to look for the sites near Veldhoven in Holland.
There are some more interesting spots around here so we'll probably send more pictures in the future. |
| Posted Comments: JimChampion (2006-08-14) | Do the wooden posts have any significance, or are they just a kind of fence to keep people off? I can't see any wire strung between the posts to make it an effective barrier. Perhaps Netherlanders are less likely to trample on their ancient monuments? | shunt (2006-08-14) | Many mounds were encircled by wooden posts, the barrow cemetries we visited were all very well maintained, I think they replace the posts when they're damaged or broken by weather influences.
Mentioning the trampling: there's a path ON the three mounds in a row but I walked around it, I don't understand why people would want to walk over them. |
