Probably graves from around 1000 AD. Not excavated. In this area people began to settle 2500 BC. There is more to see here. Among other things a maze. I haven't seen it myself yet. Planning to go there as soon as the snow is gone! |
| Posted Comments: Dennis Mc (2004-03-01) | This site appears to be in excellent state which seems to say the least unexpected. Has it been restored?
Is it unusual for such a site to be so complex?
Do you ne why it was built in this shpae. Just curious.

Dennis Mc | cereus (2004-03-01) | I have found some more information about this site. I quote:
"That the stone-ships were of great importance to the cult during the pre-Christian era we know, because all of the stones in these ship-settings were toppled over, presumably at the time of the conversion to Christianity. The stones then came to remain there in this fashion until 1932, when a restoration was carried out under the direction of Karl-Alfred Gustavson. Stone supports were found at the foot of each stone, and therefore they could be raised on the very same place where they had once stood. Because of this we know that these stoneships look identical to the original." | sem (2004-03-02) | Lovely composition. |
