Those are prescription sunglasses, not ideal for underground exploration, but I'd left my normal specs in the car. A lesson learned. |

(Looks wet down there, Jim!) | JimChampion (2005-05-14) | It was bright and sunny topside, cool and dank in the fogou: see my report on the main Halligye page for more. The reason I look like I'm hanging on to the walls is because its very difficult balance when you're squatting down in pitch blackness. I only had one set of batteries, so it was either the torch or the camera. I guess a lot of our sense of balance must come from visual cues, and in the complete darkness of this chamber it was a bit odd. Not spooky, but quiet. | TimPrevett (2005-05-14) | Good down there. Did you see the spiders? My kids loved it - we took a camp light down with us, and all had a great time. Just shuddering remembering the spiders! | JimChampion (2005-05-14) | Yes, I saw many many spiders and their little cotton-wool like nests. I took a picture of one of the arachnids but it didn't come out too well. | baz (2005-05-15) | If there were white sacs dangling on threads, then they're cave spiders (Meta menardi) |
