Description Here is a photomontage made from three wide angle pictures of the interior of Guernsey's largest surviving dolmen.

Is that dark pillar in the middle of the chamber a relatively modern addition to help hold the roof up, or is it original ? I would think it unusual to actually reach to the capstones if it was an original part of the structure, based on what I have seen in France, where stones like this within large chambers stop short of the top.

Isn't it a shame that they've allowed people to chalk rock groups' names inside? The French 'lack of care' has drifted across to Guernsey! (It did remind me of Bryn Celli Ddu, too, but the stone looks rather too square-edged to be ancient.)

but the graffitti has a sort of prehistoric, stone age dinosaur quality about it, doesnt it. The knowledge of most of which has been lost in the deep mists of time.

The support in the middle is a recent addition. There's a wooden one behind it too.
