I found myself back on the Island in the late 1990s. Feeling I really didn't understand (or like) the modern world, I found myself taking photographs of Celtic Crosses, Angels at Churches, ruins, and ancient sites. That's twice I've typed 'found myself'.. maybe that's what these ancient sites do, help us find ourselves? This photograph received a general art treatment (perhaps 'watercolour') in the art programme on my PC. Hope you like it. I think I get strength and serenity from these old, peaceful places and edifices. |

(2009-08-13) | I think you're right Michael. These sites do feel spiritually enriching, and I always feel better having visited them. Maybe it's not just the sites, but their settings, too? | celticisland
(2009-08-16) | Hello Angie, I completely agree. The settings often seem carefully chosen. On the Isle of Man, for instance, the Meayll circle, way down south, has great views north, up the Island. And the Braaid circle, above the Island's central valley, has panoramic views. Perhaps the Braaid circle is a collapsed round house, so those who lived there had the great setting all year round.
I just looked at your profile, to see if you have referenced places I know, and would like to know, but I'm spoilt for choice. May tune into yours again soon.
Just one thing, although it seems all crop patterns may now be hoaxed, since the end of 1999, according to Isabelle Kingston and friends. I see you reference Silbury Hill.
One of the best settings / views I have ever experienced is looking down from Silbury Hill onto a huge, crisp quincunx crop pattern of five circles; like a medicine wheel / celtic cross, the five circles shining like burnished shields. Thing was, I had drawn a celtic cross / set of five circles, one or two nights earlier and it seemed to flash at me just after pinning it up on my wall. I used to think Silbury Hill would make a good focal point for some sort of sky-projected display, equivalant to laser lights; and I would imagine tens of thousands of people lining the skyline in a circle of radius approx five miles out from Silbury.
So, thumbs up for Silbury for settings too. | AngieLake
(2009-08-16) | Hi Michael. I'm not actually into crop circles. The first one I ever saw was already cut out by the farmer, and that was next to West Kennet Long Barrow in 07. I did dowse the area though, and found nothing at all like the original pattern that had been created. (Maybe I was picking up on an ancient ceremony?) Btw: I like your idea for a Silbury laser show. Maybe the ancient people had a similar idea.. burning an effigy on top of it?? They would have enjoyed a modern firework display, I bet!
The Isle of Man sounds nice. Haven't been there yet, but passed it a few times en route to Ireland. |
