This Clyde type chamber is all that remains of what was an enormous cairn that was known as Margaret’s Law. It was completely destroyed in 1772 when over 15,000 cartloads of stone were removed, revealing the chamber. Human remains and urns were said to have been found and when the chamber was excavated by Aitken & Marshall in 1954 parts of 2 skulls & other human bones were recovered (Henshall 1972). This view from the southeast shows the 2 innermost compartments of the chamber together with the only surviving capstone. |
