The wall long gone, the plantation now well establised - the Earl Grey tower clearly visible to the rear.
A superb little book, with maps and b/w photos picked up in a 2nd hand store, it has unlocked many interesting places for me.
The publisher of this book based in Ashbourne has twice gone bust and reappeared under different names. |
| Posted Comments: AngieLake (2011-02-08) | Excellent find Tim! It's interesting to see sites without the present-day trees (as in Dartmoor sites now hidden amongst plantations.) Glad the wall has gone, too! | Blingo von Trumpenstein (2011-02-09) | My granny remembered visiting regularly in the 1930s and there was only 1 tree - the fir tree pictured on the left. Also see 1754 (?) drawing by Hayman Rooke (?) showing said fir tree and rediscovered large fallen recumbent type stone standing proud. The 10 Ladies !
Great historical shot.
Keep em coming . . . | Blingo von Trumpenstein (2011-02-09) | for "fir tree pictured on the left" read "fir tree pictured on the right" . . .
Engage brain before keyboard. Doh | Blingo von Trumpenstein (2011-02-09) | Just bought the book for £3.43 delivered from Alibris (sorry - last cheap one I think).
Thanks for the info. It will unlock many interesting places for me also. | rockartuk (2011-02-09) | There even a copy for a penny left:

If the wall was still there I would have already removed it myself by hand. I believe it was removed unofficially by someone I have met up on the moor in the past . . . good man.
One Love
